“A pianist, gifted with extraordinary technique and sophisticated musical essence" – this is how the legendary Aldo Ciccolini, defined Ivan Donchev. He studied at the National Music School in Sofia and graduated from the Conservatory of Santa Caterina in Rome. From 2007 to 2013 he had the chance to specialize with Aldo Ciccolini. He has received many prizes from competitions in Bulgaria and abroad (mainly in Italy, where he has lived since 2000) and this gives him the opportunity to perform in many places in Europe, Asia and North America. Some of his concerts include the participation of Aldo Ciccolini himself.
Ivan Donchev has made several recordings, the latest being with the violinist Ivo Stankov (released by Gega New - GR 18); it was awarded 5 stars by the UK magazine Musical Opinion.
· The pianist dedicates the current programme to his teacher, Aldo Ciccolini. It was recorded during his concert which took place on 24 July 2009 as part of the Festival Radio France in Montpellier.
