Pianist Ivo Kaltchev is among the Bulgarian musicians who enjoy a successful international performing career. A graduate of Sofia Academy of Music, he furthered his education in the USA. He received a diploma from Yale and PhD degree from Rutgers University. Currently, he is Associate Professor of Piano and Head of the Piano Division at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. He has presented workshops and master classes in Europe, Asia and America. He is an adjudicator and has judged international piano competitions, he also teaches as Visiting Piano Professor in some universities.
Along with his teaching and research activity, Ivo Kaltchev has an active performing career as recitalist, soloist with orchestras, chamber musician and recording artist. He has performed in musical centers throughout the world, appearing on stage with many famous orchestras and artists.
The pianist takes pleasure in bringing back to life forgotten composers and works. As a result of his research in piano literature, he has recorded for Gega New two releases with works of Charles Griffes and Florent Schmitt. His new program of piano works by Debussy, recorded again for Gega New, confirms the opinion of prominent musicologists, who emphasize in their reviews on "his technical authority, burnished tone, and command of color…", as well as his "rare gift for the creation of an intimate atmosphere".
